Vocation Service Projects
On 3rd December 2000, the Rotary Clubs of Tawau and Tawau Tanjung and the Ark Career Development Centre hosted the Ark's Education Fair Road Show 2000 in the Marco Polo Hotel, Tawau. Over 500 secondary school students participated in this event. Many institutions of higher learning were there to promote their courses to SPM and STPM students who came to seek information on their interested career fields. PP Krishnan from the Rotary Club of Klang talked on (1) How to choose a career and (2) Career Planning.
President Yuen Wai Seng of the Rotary Club of Tawau, PE Jimmy Lim of the Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung, Mr. Krishnan, Director of Ark Publications Sdn. Bhd. and Vocational Service Directors, Rtn. James Chen and Rtn. Lee Cheu Seng were there to officiate the opening of this event.
On 9th November, the Vocational Service Committee Organising Chairman, Rtn. Lee Cheu Seng, organised a talk entitled "Four Way Test" for 100 secondary school students. This talk was held at the Holy Trinity Secondary School, Tawau. PP Dr. Teo Tu Huah was the guest speaker. He spoke on the importance of the "Four Way Test" in the Rotary Movement. President Timothy Chin presented a Four-Way Test Plaque to Madam Chu Set Mei, Principal of the school. The plaque was installed in a prominent position of the school hall, thus creating awareness of the "Four Way Test".
October is Vocational Service Month. The Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung organised a plant tour to commemorate this month. On 21 October, Rotractors and Rotarians from this club together with 30 interactors from the Interact Club of Sabah Chineses High School and Holy Trinity Secondary School visited the Majulah Koko Processing Plant in Tawau. The visit enabled the interactors to learn about a prospective career field in the Cocoa Processing Industry. A 20-minute video was shown on the cultivation of cocoa and the processing of cocoa products.
